I Vote Pro-Life (woman holding sign)The abortion rate has dropped dramatically in Arkansas, where pro-lifers are defending the unborn in the legislature and at the ballot box.

The Arkansas Department of Health has released its 2020 report which shows 3,154 abortions during the year, a rate that hasn't been that low since the 1970's.

Americans United for Life, in its most recent report, rates Arkansas as the number one pro-life state in the nation.

David Cox of Arkansas Family Council says the drop in abortions can be traced to public policy that is pro-life and to pro-life public opinions.

“You know, if you look at the public opinion polling in Arkansas, most Arkansans think abortion should be either completely illegal or legal in only certain circumstances,” Cox observes. “So Arkansas on the whole is a very pro-life state when it comes to public opinion.”

The state legislature has become a leader in passing laws to protect unborn children, which has come with expected legal challenges, too, that are pending in courts.

Those rulings could produce some pro-life decisions, Cox says, “and that could save the lives of unborn children.”
