hand with ultrasound wandNew York is again targeting crisis pregnancy centers with what one pro-life leader calls troubling legislation.

Several years ago, New York City passed a measure that violated the rights of its pro-life pregnancy centers, who eventually corrected the issue in the courtroom. But now the state legislature wants to pass the Pregnancy Center Report bill (Bill S.470-Hoylman/A.5499-Glick), a bill that, according to New Yorkers for Constitutional Freedoms, is best understood as an effort to weaponize New York government to harass pro-life pregnancy centers. It would would give the state health agency oversight of the centers and would force them to provide a hoard of information, including client services.

Chris Slattery, founder of Expectant Mother Care-EMC FrontLine Pregnancy Centers in the city, says it is outrageous.

"This particular legislation is basically a witch hunt authorized by the State Department of Health and other usual cohorts of pro-aborts who are going to have open season political harassment of pro-life pregnancy centers from Staten Island all the way to the Canadian border and Niagara Falls," Slattery laments.

Meanwhile, abortuaries are only required to report minimal information to the state.

"Abortion clinics are supposed to report to the state and ... to the New York City Department of Health, but they're only reporting the numbers of abortions and basic demographics," the pro-lifer explains.

Abortion facilities are also supposed to be inspected at least once a year, but in the case of one particular clinic, research shows there has been no inspection for 12 years.

Slattery says the proposed legislation is an effort to discredit, defame, demoralize, and defeat the essential work of pro-life pregnancy facilities.
