keep abortion legal abortion kills signsWith a new poll showing that 80% of Democrats believe abortion should be legal in most or all cases, a researcher says pro-lifers must push back.

Michael New, research associate at The Catholic University of America and associate scholar at Charlotte Lozier Institute, says that is a 13% gain among Democrats since 2014.

According to Pew Research Center's findings, more than a third (35%) of Republicans and people who lean Republican say abortion should be legal in all or most cases.

"The fact that Democrats are becoming more supportive of abortion means that we have to play defense," says New. "The Biden administration is going to very likely make a push to repeal the Hyde Amendment, and that means that if they succeed, taxpayer dollars will be paying for elective abortions through Medicaid, and that's something pro-lifers need to fight against."

New adds this uptick also means that a lot of blue states are going to see efforts to make abortion policy more permissive.

"In Massachusetts, they've succeeded in at least weakening the state's pro-life parental involvement law," he reports. "In the past few years, Illinois and Maine have changed their policy, and their state Medicaid programs now cover elective abortions."

But the pro-life the research associate asserts that all is not lost.

"We can play defense, and we can push back," he says. "So far in Illinois, local pro-lifers have done good work protecting their pro-life parental involvement law. And in New Jersey, there are efforts to pass what's known as the reproductive health act that makes abortion legal throughout all nine months of pregnancy and would allow non-physicians to do abortions," but pro-lifers there have at least stalled that.

So New encourages pro-lifers to "organize Independents and Republicans and push back."
