Pelosi quiets cheering DemsMembers of the U.S. House are trying to force a vote on a bill that, according to the nation's largest public policy women's organization, most Americans support.

Nancy Pelosi has repeatedly refused to allow a floor debate and vote on the Born-Alive Abortion Survivors Protection Act, which would require that abortionists provide medical care for the babies who survive their failed procedures. So U.S. Representative Kat Cammack (R-Fla.) has filed a discharge petition that would force the House speaker to bring the measure to the floor for a vote.

Doreen Denny of Concerned Women for America tells One News Now five Democrats would have to join the 213 Republicans currently holding House seats in signing the petition.

"We have a closer margin now in the House of Representatives," Denny explains. "We need 218 members to sign that in order to force a vote, and we're believing we're going to be well on the way as members start coming back to town and signing their names on the petition."

Pelosi has stated in the past that abortion is sacred to her, which could be why she has refused to entertain this effort.

"It's rather surprising," Denny comments. "82% of the American people believe that babies who are born alive after an attempted abortion ought to be given the life-saving care or the kind of care that would be appropriate for any baby born at that gestational age, and that's what this bill would ensure."

Concerned Women for America maintains that refusing medical care for babies born alive in abortions is nothing short of infanticide.
