Man covering mouth (censorship)Pro-life activists in Ohio are warning city leaders to stay far away from their First Amendment right to get close to pregnant women who are planning to abort their unborn child.

At the only operating abortion clinic in Toledo, pro-lifers talk to women as they enter the facility but Aaron Baer of the Center for Christian Virtue says Planned Parenthood is not happy with the daily dialogue disrupting business.

“And so they've come to Toledo now, with their latest abortion clinic buffer zone order,” he advises, “to prevent these sidewalk counselors from reaching out to these wome, and helping them, and letting them know they have more options than just ending the life of their unborn child.”

The Toledo City Council is considering the Planned Parenthood-endorsed ordinance that would keep pro-life activists 100 feet from the abortuary and no closer than eight feet to a pregnant woman unless she allows it.

“For anyone that's ever prayed or done sidewalk counseling,” Baer says, “they're having a very personal conversation with a stranger and that cannot be done eight feet away.”

There is an obvious First Amendment concern over the proposed ordinance, which has been struck down in other municipalities, and Baear says he is urging the city council to rejected the proposal.
