crisis pregnancy centerConnecticut is considering legislation that could discriminate against organizations that stand for life.

Dozens of people, including Mary Szoch of the Family Research Council's (FRC) Center for Human Dignity, testified against Senate Bill 835 during a recent public hearing before the state Senate Public Health Committee. The bill declares that pro-life pregnancy centers cannot engage in "deceptive advertising" either by statement or omission.

"The vagueness of the words 'by statement or omission' allows the government to decide what words the pregnancy center left out, what they should have said," Szoch explains. "It's an intimidation practice with a goal of bullying pregnancy centers into not advertising."

Meanwhile, the measure ignores abortion clinics, including Planned Parenthood, which fully supports the bill.

Szock

"Pregnancy centers are open because they're actually doing good; they're actually helping women," the pro-lifer asserts. "Planned Parenthood is open to make a profit, and they do profit every time a woman chooses abortion. Yet they're not required to disclose that expanding abortion is at the core of their mission."

This would only apply to pro-life pregnancy centers, because every time they play a part in saving a child from abortion, that cuts into the abortion industry's bottom line.

Even if the measure is approved, there are serious questions as to whether it would hold up against a legal challenge in court.
