pastor at pulpitAhead of this weekend's National Sanctity of Human Life Sunday, pastors are being asked to remember the preborn when they preach and teach about the value of life.

One year ago, President Donald Trump issued a proclamation for National Sanctity of Human Life Day:

"Every person – the born and unborn, the poor, the downcast, the disabled, the infirm, and the elderly – has inherent value," he stated. "As a Nation, we must remain steadfastly dedicated to the profound truth that all life is a gift from God, who endows every person with immeasurable worth and potential."

Eric Scheidler of the Pro-Life Action League, who has followed the history of the day since it was established by President Ronald Reagan in 1984, says it is different this year. The COVID pandemic has claimed many lives, both from the disease and because of circumstances pushing people beyond what they think they can bear.

"We've seen starvation just escalate all around the globe because of the economic slowdown," Scheidler continues. "Human life is really under assault right now in a way that we're all paying attention to. But we don't pay attention to the attack on human life that's taking place in the womb and has been now for decades."

Scheidler, Eric (Pro-Life Action League)So while he agrees that those suffering from COVID must be prioritized, the pro-lifer says some of the focus should remain on the estimated 61 million+ babies who have been killed by abortion.

"When we will not recognize the humanity of an unborn child, and we treat the child in the womb as garbage to be sucked out and thrown into an incinerator or flushed down the drain, how can we really truly claim to be a society that values life," Scheidler wonders.

He says the calls for a unified fight against COVID have brought results, but this Sunday is a call for that same unity and energy to be focused on ending the practice that claims the lives of approximately 3,000 preborn babies every day in America.
