Texas flagA national pro-life group is closely watching a Texas congressional election in which a well-known abortion supporter is trying to unseat a pro-life Republican.

Wendy Davis, a former state lawmaker, is trying to defeat first-term Rep. Chip Roy to represent the 21st District, which is a reliably “red” district but also includes the liberal city of Austin.

Davis

Prudence Robertson of the Susan B. Anthony List says Texas voters know Davis well after she attempted to filibuster pro-life legislation in 2013, making her an overnight darling of the national media for the “pink sneakers” she wore.

Davis attempted to use that fame in a 2014 bid for governor but was handily defeated by Greg Abbott 59-38 percent in the statewide race.

Roy

In the congressional race, Davis is expected to do well with Democrat voters in Austin so Robertson says pro-life activists are knocking on doors urging pro-life Texans in the 21st District to vote for Roy.

“Because, when they understand the true extremism of Wendy Davis,” Robertson says, “they reject that she supports late-term abortion and infanticide.”

Roy narrowly won election in 2018 50-47 percent over Democrat candidate Joseph Kopser.
