Hippocratic OathA coalition of pro-life groups is making sure that an abortion-related death in Alabama is fully investigated.

On May 7th of this year, a woman who was obviously weak following an abortion at West Alabama Women's Center in Tuscaloosa was released to go home. Later the same day, she was transported to a hospital emergency room, where she died. Since then, several pro-life organizations have been trying to obtain the patient's autopsy results to learn what happened to her.

"The Alabama Forensic Science center … had indicated that they could not release the autopsy because the case is still under criminal investigation," reports Operation Rescue spokeswoman Cheryl Sullenger.

She submits that if this woman's death had been caused by anything other than abortion, then the autopsy report would have already been released.

Sullenger, Cheryl"If this case was being pursued like any other case that was not involved with an abortion clinic, we would have had an autopsy report already, and there would be a conclusion to this entire case and investigation," says Sullenger. "But because an abortion clinic is involved, it always complicates things, and it usually delays resolution."

Nevertheless, Operation Rescue and the other organizations will continue to pursue the information to find out what went wrong. Meanwhile, the abortionist has since retired, and West Alabama Women's Center is now operating under a new owner, so the pro-life coalition also has questions about whether Alabama law was followed with the new ownership and clinic licensing.
