I am the pro-life generationMississippi’s legislature has passed the Life Equality Act, which prohibits abortions based on the race, gender or physical abnormality unborn babies.

The bill now goes to Gov. Tate Reeves, who is expected to sign it.

Ingrid Duran of the National Right to Life Committee says the Magnolia State will become the fifth state to protect unborn children, such as those with Down syndrome, from discrimination.

Many families with Down syndrome children have described how they were pushed to terminate the pregnancy, Duran says, which suggests a push to refuse such children the right to be born.

The bill was sponsored by state Rep. Carolyn Crawford and Sen. Joey Fillingane.

"Governor Tate Reeves has an incredible pro-life record and we expect that the governor will be signing the Life Equality Act," says Jameson Taylor, Ph.D. of the Mississippi Center for Public Policy.

Taylor tells OneNewsNow it is time for states such as Mississippi and others to repudiate a “dark history” tied to racism and black babies.

"Mississippi, along with more than 30 other states, enacted compulsory sterilization laws in the 1920s," Taylor explains. "Planned Parenthood led the charge in many cases and they were advocating for population control of African Americans and the disabled.”
