Progress is being made in Congress on a pro-life vote that bypasses the abortion-supporting House Speaker.
U.S. Rep. Jeff Van Drew, who recently switched from Democrat to Republican, has added his name to a discharge petition that would force a House vote on the Born Alive Infant Protection Act.
Mat Staver of Liberty Council Action says Van Drew’s name is the 204th signature.
“We need 218 signatures in the House,” he says, “to bypass Nancy Pelosi, who has been blocking, time after time after time, efforts to bring this bill to the floor.”
A child born alive in an abortion can be set aside and allowed to die, which Staver considers infanticide.
“This bill would actually require that babies that are born alive, even though they were intended for an abortion,” Staver explains, “should get equal medical treatment and care to other infants who were born at that same gestational age level.”
If enough petition signatures are obtained, Pelosi will be required to permit a vote and Staver predicts it would pass even in the Democratic-led House.
