pregnancy ultrasoundOhio may soon pass a bill that will criminalize abortion.

Meg Wittman of Cincinnati Right to Life tells OneNewsNow House Bill 413, titled "Life at Conception," is premised on the foundation established by science that conception is when life begins.

"We know that life begins at the moment of fertilization, and at that point, we have a unique individual human being with DNA separate from its mother," Wittman asserts.

If the bill is made into law, anyone who purposely and with prior calculation and design performs an abortion, or anyone who has an abortion, may be punished under existing murder penalties. So in a single procedure, the abortionist and the mother of the aborted baby could face legal punishment.

Wittman

"However, it is very important to note that what is in the bill also says that there will be no punishment whatsoever if a mother is, and I quote from the bill, if the woman is 'compelled by fear, duress, intimidation, or fraud to have an abortion and will file a report with law enforcement affirming this,'" the pro-lifer adds.

She says that is in place to protect the women who do not want to abort their child but are pressured into doing so.

So far, 21 sponsors have signed on to the measure. A committee hearing has yet to be held.
