Internet concept (http)When a member of a pro-life student group asked a librarian at a Catholic college to remove Planned Parenthood as a resource on the library's website, the librarian refused, stating he supports a student's right to an abortion.

Kate Maloney of Students for Life of America reports librarian Jay Kibby at The College of St. Rose made the shocking statement that he doesn't know if the school has any official policy regarding the college "being a purely secular institution." Matt Lamb, SFLA's director of communications, reacts:

"I would be quite interested to know – and I say this tongue-in-cheek – if, when they do fundraising letters to donors, are they telling them they're a Catholic university? Or are they saying 'We're a secular institution and we support abortion; we support Planned Parenthood'?"

Lamb explains that another Catholic school, Seattle University, reacted much differently when Students for Life contacted it in August about using Planned Parenthood as a resource on its website.

"When we brought it to their attention, the president of their school actually reached out and apologized and thanked us for bringing it to their attention, that these resources are on their website," he recalls. "So we do hope that every Catholic school will eventually kind of follow this lead."

After receiving backlash for removing Planned Parenthood as a resource, Seattle University President Stephen Sundborg said yesterday that he is meeting with staff and students to discuss his decision.
