Some opponents of the pro-life movement don't want people to get the truth, but their efforts are hardly working.
PROLIFE Across AMERICA is a non-profit organization that posts billboards encouraging expectant mothers to choose life for their babies. Their ads can also be found on the Internet and heard on the radio.
But Mary Ann Kuharski, the organization's executive director, tells OneNewsNow there has been a recent problem.
"In the last ten years I can think of only three billboards, maybe four, that have been defaced or vandalized," she reports, "Yet in the last two months, sorry to say we've had over a dozen billboards defaced."
She believes the uptick in vandalism is the result of an organized, concerted attack. So PROLIFE Across AMERICA is raising money for new billboards, and that effort has already proven successful.
"So often our billboards or radio or Internet ads may be the only visible sign of hope or help to someone on the brink of an abortion decision. And believe it or not, 40 percent of the callers to our hotline are men," Kuharski shares. "Oftentimes they are the brother, the boyfriend, the father of the baby, [or] the husband."
About 50 percent of the women who call the pro-life organization have already been through one abortion experience and do not want to do it again.
For 30 years the organization has posted the educational billboards with a hotline number for people to call for information and help, and PROLIFE Across AMERICA plans to have at least 8,500 billboards this year alone.
