A controversial United Nations organization isn’t getting any American dollars after the Trump administration stuck to a funding policy.
For the third year in a row the administration has eliminated funds for the United Nations Population Fund, a family planning organization.
Rebecca Oas of C-FAM says there is a good reason: the UN group has a history of cooperating with the communist Chinese government and its coercive one-child policy, a population control program that included forced abortions and contraceptives.
“In fact,” says Oas, “in the '80s UNFPA gave its inaugural population award to the Chinese government's family planning directors."
According to Oas and C-Fam, the Trump administration is also concerned that UN Population Fund works with other international organizations that promote and perform abortions in Third World countries. Those nations have objected to the left-wing push to welcome abortions when they need help with medical, food and economic development.
The United States is a major source for international aid, says Oas, “but there has to be that very clear line between providing health and providing death and so certainly we have not cut our funding in that area.”
