gavel with U.S. flagA pro-life leader in Utah is calling out a county prosecutor for refusing to stand behind a state law and instead support Planned Parenthood.

Utah lawmakers passed a law that bans aborting a baby after 18 weeks into the pregnancy but Mary Taylor of Pro-Life Utah says the Salt Lake County prosecutor has publicly stated he refuses to follow the law.

The prosecutor is Sim Gill, a Democrat, who told The Association Press that the abortion law is unconstitutional and called his decision an “ethical” one.

Salt Lake County, the state’s most populous with a population of more than a million people, has the only two abortion clinics in the state.

Planned Parenthood has predictably filed a lawsuit against the law.

Taylor says Gill doesn’t understand the “separation of powers” that is vital to our constitutional republic.

“He's not a legislator. He's not a king. And he's not the courts,” says the pro-life activist. “So it's not his job to decide whether to enforce this law or not.”

Taylor points out, in fact, that the state’s attorney general’s office is tasked with defending the state law, not a county prosecutor.
