WI pro-lifers to governor: read the bill first, okay?

21-week babyWisconsin's pro-abortion governor says he will veto a pro-life bill but a pro-life group is questioning is he has even read the legislation.

The bill involves criminal penalties for doctors that fail to give medical care to babies born alive during an abortion attempt.

Heather Weininger of Wisconsin Right to Life says the bill is in the beginning stages and there has not yet been a hearing on the legislation.

"It hasn't gone to the floor for a vote at this point," she tells OneNewsNow.com. "It's simply been referred to the committees at this point, and I think it's important to note Wisconsin does have a law already to give the treatment and rights to a born-alive child from a failed abortion attempt.”

This newest legislation, she says, expands on that current law and gives health care providers direction on the care that would be required.

Weininger says it would be difficult for the legislature to override a veto without help from Democrats, which she is not ruling out, adding liberals "have gone way too far."

"I don't think the governor has actually read the bill," she continues, referring to Democratic governor Tony Evers who took office in January.

"Is that the kind of governor we have?" she asks. "He's just simply being told what to do by Planned Parenthood? Or does he actually have policy people who are reading the laws that are being put out there and understanding what they would do to protect the unborn in our state?”
