Pro-lifer Porter not bitter – in fact, she's thrilled

pro-lifer reading BibleSomeone was conspicuous by their absence during the recent signing of Ohio's "heartbeat bill" – but she's okay with that because the new law, she says, could be the one to finally bring an end to legalized killing of the unborn in America.

"I was disinvited to the bill signing ceremony," says Janet Porter, president of Faith 2 Action and author of the heartbeat bill, which bans most abortions after a baby's heartbeat is detected. "I'm told it's primarily because we were working until the last minute to make sure that the Senate – specifically Ohio Senate president Larry Obhoff – didn't gut the bill again … for a second time."

Porter voiced frustrations with Senator Obhoff last December when the heartbeat bill was up for vote at that time. The senator didn't respond to OneNewsNow's request for comment Tuesday.

The longtime pro-life warrior says she prefers the bill as amended by the State House.

"The bill that passed the Senate originally was very week [because] it protected only a few thousand babies. But the House fixed it, thanks to our champions Representatives Ron Hood (R-District 78) and Candice Keller (R-District 53)," Porter continues.

"That bill was made stronger to protect 20,000 babies instead of just a few thousand," she informs, "and when we heard a rumor the morning of the vote that Senate president Larry Obhoff … was threatening to go to conference committee to try to gut the bill for a second time, we sent out a press release and an email blast that got his phones ringing all day long."

The office of Ohio Governor Mike DeWine (R) also didn't respond to OneNewsNow's request for comment. Regardless, Porter says she would take a strong pro-life heartbeat bill over a bill signing any day.

"I'm thrilled that it was signed into law and that it was crafted to be the arrow in the heart of Roe v. Wade," she tells OneNewsNow. "… I believe it is going to deliver the fatal blow to abortion in America, and I'm thrilled to see that the momentum is catching on around the country and now around the world.

"So, praise God! He gets all the glory and all the credit."
