A pro-life leader is taking exception to a pro-abortion billboard campaign in Oklahoma.
The billboards were posted in Oklahoma City by pro-abortion group Oklahoma Call for Reproductive Justice. The billboards state, "People of faith love those who have abortion."
Eric Scheidler of the Pro-Life Action League says that is true --- at least in part.
"Absolutely we answer Christ's call to love everyone," he says. "That includes those who've done horrible things. That includes our enemies. And, in a certain sense, anyone who's involved in abortion in any way is our enemy because we are defenders of the unborn."
But he stresses that Christians should extend love not only to the unborn but to women who have had an abortion, encouraging them to seek redemption and love them through the emotional scars that often follow an abortion.
The billboard, however, implies that Christians support abortion.
Scheidler, a veteran of the pro-life movement, says it's encouraging that abortion is so stigmatized 40 years after Roe v Wade that abortion supporters have to create such false statements to suggest abortion is okay with the faithful.
"And so I'm not really troubled when I see billboards like this except to the extent that they do sometimes demoralize pro-lifers," he says. "And they do create a sense out there in the culture that somehow the real Christians are in favor of abortion, and don't really have a problem with it. We know that that's not true."
