A major denomination supports defunding Planned Parenthood, but a pro-life leader suggests even more action is needed.
The Southern Baptist Convention recently concluded its annual conference, but not before adopting a resolution calling on Congress to defund the nation's largest abortion provider, citing Planned Parenthood as immoral.
"I can't think of a time where I've been more excited about a mainline Protestant denomination denouncing Planned Parenthood, standing in solidarity with Operation Rescue [and the] Center for Medical Progress in asking for the defunding of Planned Parenthood, and also the criminal prosecution of Planned Parenthood, and saying that abortion is a sin," responds Operation Rescue's Troy Newman.
The Southern Baptist Convention cited the work of the Center for Medical Progress, the undercover videos that exposed abortion clinics, including Planned Parenthood facilities, of harvesting and selling organs, limbs, and skin from aborted babies.
"As a co-founder of the Center for Medical Progress working on this project for well over three years, I could not be more proud of our work," Newman shares. "It has literally changed the entire debate on abortion -- the fact that Planned Parenthood has been exposed as a baby body parts for cash Ponzi scheme."
Newman says the bare minimum reaction is to cancel Planned Parenthood's federal paycheck. He contends the organization should be stripped of its tax-exempt status and that those responsible for the scandal – including CEO Cecile Richards -- be prosecuted.
