President Trump has issued an executive order that one pro-life leader believes sends a message overseas about America and the value of life.
In 1983, the U.S. – under President Ronald Reagan – implemented what has come to be known as the "Mexico City Policy," which bars use of federal funds to foreign non-government organizations for abortions and promotion of abortion. Since then, Democratic presidents – Barack Obama included - have issued executive orders rescinding it while Republican presidents have reinstated it. Yesterday, President Trump officially reinstated it.
Brian Fisher, chairman and president of Human Coalition, tells OneNewsNow that's one step forward in telling other countries America recognizes the value of human life.
"Certainly as the flagship superpower of the world, our country's perspective on the weakest and innocent members of our society, those not yet born, certainly resonates around the world," he opines.
Fisher routinely receives communications from pro-life organizations and their staff in other countries – "and they very frequently tell me how much they're watching America and American politics and how much it influences their own governments," he explains.
"So to finally begin the process of returning to a government and a country that values preborn life and born life ... will most certainly resonate around the international community," he adds.
The next step, according to Fisher, is to defund Planned Parenthood, which terminates the lives of about 330,000 babies a year and, as he says, "historically with obscene amounts of government funding."
