mosquito-borne illness zikaA pro-life leader insists the latest declaration about the Zika virus from the Centers for Disease Control only underscores the need for a change in the culture.

The CDC has announced that the Zika virus, a mosquito-borne disease, causes microcephaly and other birth defects, although America's health protection agency says much more research must be done just to be sure. In the meantime, says Judie Brown, founder of American Life League, the stance taken by prominent health organizations is decidedly anti-life.

"The problem with the CDC's announcement – and the position taken by the World Health Organization – is that their ultimate solution to this problem is killing the babies of women who've become pregnant and have acquired the Zika virus," she states. "And that is, of course, the wrong response."

Every life has value, including babies who are disabled, says the pro-life leader. And she finds it interesting that Planned Parenthood is using Zika to promote abortion, but no one is targeting killing the mosquitoes.

Brown

"Mosquitoes have been carrying this [virus] for several years ... and the antidote, the vaccine, is nowhere to be found," says the ALL founder. "Now they're finally investigating the possibility of having an effective vaccine ...."

So why, in the interim, aren't they killing the mosquitoes? "Because they'd rather kill the babies," she argues.

Of course there are those who would perhaps take sides with the mosquitoes. "Repellants that kill bugs are offensive to the environment," notes Brown. "Abortion [however] doesn't seem to be offensive to the environment in the culture we live in."

So while scientists work on possible solutions, Brown suggests America needs to restore a culture of life rather than continue to promote a culture of death.
