I regret my abortion (women holding signs)Congressional Democrats are rushing to make sure abortion is the law of the land.

Their concern is that the U.S. Supreme Court has accepted Dobbs v. Jackson Women's Health Organization, which concerns Mississippi’s HB 1510 law banning abortions from being committed past 15 weeks for any reason other than physical medical emergencies or severe fetal abnormalities. Their ruling in that case might overturn the court's legalization of abortion in 1973.

"This has sent shockwaves to these pro-abortion Democrats where their highest goal and ideology is to promote abortion," comments Mat Staver, founder of Liberty Counsel. "It is time in America that we return to the Constitution, and it is time in America that we return to an ethic that supports the sanctity of human life and makes the womb a safe place once again."

Democrats have reintroduced the so-called Women's Health Protection Act, a bill that, according to LifeSiteNews.com, establishes a federal statutory right to perform and obtain abortions, including after fetal viability (under the broad cover of "health"), and specifically forbids states from subjecting abortion to ultrasound requirements, mandatory waiting periods, informed-consent requirements, and other health and safety regulations, such as admitting privileges.

"It wouldn't matter what the Supreme Court did, because this would supersede the states, and it would be in effect even with the absence of the Supreme Court decision," Staver explains. "That's why they have reintroduced it, because they are fearful that the Supreme Court will overturn Roe v. Wade."

A high court ruling overturning the precedent would only send abortion regulation to the states. Democrats in Congress want to make sure abortion remains the law of the land nationally, imposing it on states that want to make abortion illegal or at least heavily restricted.
