Sarah Huckabee Sanders (gov candidate)A pro-family activist and former Texas GOP leader fully expects Sarah Huckabee Sanders to "hold her own" and stand her ground if elected as governor of Arkansas in 2022.

Sanders (pictured), who served as President Donald Trump's press secretary for two-and-a-half years, wants to follow in the footsteps of her father, former Arkansas Governor Mike Huckabee. In a recent video announcing her candidacy she stated:

Sanders: "With the radical left now in control of Washington, your governor is your last line of defense. In fact, your governor must be on the front line. So today I announce my candidacy for governor of Arkansas."

Sanders joins a Republican primary that already includes two others and a possible fourth challenger. Current Republican Governor Asa Hutchinson is unable to run next year due to term limits. No Democrats have announced a bid to run for the seat in the heavy "red" state.

Cathie Adams serves as 1st vice president on the national board of Eagle Forum and is a former chairman of the Republican Party of Texas.

Adams

"I am so proud of Sarah Huckabee Sanders," Adams tells One News Now. "She is not only a fine lady but she also is a very courageous woman. The way that she stood up and stood out as press secretary is just absolutely stellar.

"She is just a woman with courage and the kind of leadership quality that I think any state could say, wow – this is someone who could really do a good job for us."

In her role as White House press secretary, Sanders was known for being quick on her feet in responding to reporters' questions and accusations impugning President Trump or his administration of wrongdoing. Adams doesn't think Sanders will be intimidated by anyone.

"I think it's going to be laughable if they try doing terrible things to Sarah Sanders," says Adams, referring to the media. "She's a lady who knows how to hold her own. She knows how to stand her ground – and she is not going to be an easy pushover."

If Sanders is elected, she would be the first woman governor of Arkansas. Her father served as governor from 1996 to 2007.
