'Globalism' may be popular, but it's not in God's plan

globalismA coronavirus-related call for action, issued recently by a former prime minister of Great Britain, is causing some alarm among those familiar with biblical prophecy.

In late March, former PM Gordon Brown called for the creation of what's described as "a temporary form of global government" to attack the COVID-19 pandemic. He argued there's a need for a taskforce – comprising world leaders, health experts, and the heads of international organizations – that would have executive powers to coordinate the response.

"This is not something that can be dealt with in one country," Gordon told The Guardian. "There has to be a coordinated global response …. This is first and foremost a medical emergency and there has to be joint action to deal with that."

Dr. Robert Jeffress, senior pastor of First Baptist-Dallas, says the Book of Revelation talks about a single world government ruled by the antichrist coming in the last days.

"[But] there are a few things that need to take place before that happens," he explains to OneNewsNow. "There needs to be an appearance of the antichrist, who will bring about that one world government; there has to be a rebuilding of the temple in Jerusalem; and most of all, there has to be a rapture of the Church."

Are we are in the End Times?

Markell, Jan (Olive Tree Ministries)Jan Markell of Olive Tree Ministries offered this response to that question Thursday on American Family Radio:

"I think what we're seeing is just a warning. God always warns before the boom is lowered, so to speak, and … we read about the birth pangs and how they're going to increase in intensity and complexity and [that] they're just going to get more serious and more serious.

"My goodness, we just had earthquakes in Idaho and Utah. These are all warnings. I believe God is saying 'My Son is coming soon to redeem the Church. Are you ready? Are you ready?' These are all wake-up calls. "

Still, the Southern Baptist pastor argues the current pandemic is paving the way for that day – whether that's in five years, 50 years, or 500 years.

"There's going to be some kind of worldwide catastrophe – I happen to believe it's going to be the disappearance of tens of millions of Christians at the rapture," he shares. "[But] there's going to be some kind of worldwide crisis that allows the antichrist to rise to power without any fight."

In the meantime, Jeffress says there will be a constant push for globalism.

"There will always be a push to go against God's plan," he emphasizes. "God's plan was for this world to be divided by nations and by borders around those nations. It was not God's will for us to live as 'citizens of the globe.'"

Brown suggested his solution would an expanded version of the current G20. The G20 is an international forum for the governments and central bank governors from 19 countries and the European Union.
