An Ohio tea party activist is praising the decision to move Representative Jim Jordan (R-Ohio) to the Intelligence Committee to help defend President Donald Trump against impeachment.
House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy (R-Calif.) announced the move in a Friday tweet, saying, "I am appointing Jim Jordan to the House Intelligence Committee -- which has now become the Impeachment Committee -- where he will continue fighting for fairness and truth. Rep. Rick Crawford has been an exemplary member of the committee and will rejoin it when this Democrat charade is over."
"No one's a bigger bulldog than Jim Jordan," comments Tom Zawistowski, president of the We the People Convention and the Ohio Citizens PAC. "Jim Jordan has been fighting this from the beginning, and as a bulldog, he's just not going to let go of it. The guy's a national championship wrestler … so I think what the Republicans are doing is they're putting the people with the most knowledge and experience in the positions where they can make a difference."
And Zawistowski finds it telling that an establishment Republican like McCarthy would appoint a member of the Freedom Caucus to spearhead the president's defense.
"92 percent of Republicans want to re-elect Donald Trump, so what Republican running for Congress is not going to support him," the activist poses. "It would be suicide. So you'd sure better be standing up and be vocal about protecting the president, because if you're not, you're going to pay at the voting booth in the primary."
He adds that part of it is "common sense that Trump is not guilty," and the other part of it is "a lot of the establishment Republicans are trying to save their own neck."
