A former special independent counsel calls it undignified for a Michigan congresswoman to suggest arresting Trump administration officials who refuse to cooperate with Democratic-led investigations.
At a town hall in Detroit, U.S. Rep. Rashida Tlaib (pictured at left) told the gathering that Democratic leaders are discussing the arrest of people who refuse to cooperate with subpoenas requiring them to testify at impeachment inquiry hearings.
Tlaib and other members of Congress are currently home in their districts and Democratic lawmakers are busily touting their plans to impeach President Trump. At her town hall gathering, Tlaib was asked if federal marshals would arrest Trump officials.
"So they're trying to figure out, no joke ... is it the D.C. police that goes and gets them?” Tlaib replied according to The Associated Press.
The lawmaker went on to say Democratic leaders are looking at where to hold them if arrests are made and said they are “trying to tread carefully” on that issue.
President Trump has informed Speaker Nancy Pelosi that the administration will not cooperate with any impeachment investigation until the House has taken a vote, thereby giving Republicans an even hand in investigating the claims.
Appearing on Fox News, former White Water special independent counsel Ken Star called that “wishful thinking” and predicted it will never happen in a thousand years.
“Happily, we're not a banana republic,” he observed. “It's so unfortunate and so undignified for any member of the House of Representatives.”
What is coming on Capitol Hill, he continued, is a political fight and a legal fight, but there will be no U.S. Marshals or Capitol Police arresting anyone.
“It is outrageous,” responds Laurie Cardoza-Moore, president of Proclaiming Justice to the Nations. “If the shoes were on the other foot, and this was Republicans calling to round up members of the Obama administration, people would be outraged.”
Rep. Tlaib is acting like a “Nazi thug” and is an evil person, Cardoza-Moore tells OneNewsNow.
