An immigration watchdog is praising a former border enforcement official for taking on Democratic lawmakers over the U.S.-Mexico border.
Tom Homan, a former acting ICE director, spoke before the House Oversight Committee after being invited by Rep. Jim Jordan (R-Ohio) to “tell the truth” about conditions on the border.
And the Democrats predictably pounced.
"Do you not care?” lectured Rep. Jesus Garcia, an Illinois Democrat. “Is it because these children don't look like children that are around you?”
“First of all,” Homan countered, “your comments are disgusting. I've served my country 34 years so for you to sit there and insult my integrity, and my love for my country and for children. That's why this whole thing needs to be fixed. And you're the member of Congress. Fix it!"
Ira Mehlman, a spokesman for the Federation for American Immigration Reform, says Homan is right to “absolutely right” to claim the lawmakers don’t really care about the people they claim to care about.
“What they care about are their own political objectives,” he says, “and that is really the end of it.”
Speaking after the hearing on CNN, Democratic Rep. Ro Khanna called Homan a "badgering witness" and claimed Democrats were only asking a "basic question" all Americans are asking: why children are being denied food, blankets, and medical care by ICE agents at detention centers.
Mehlman tells OneNewsNow he recently visited detention sites himself and says any description of “squalid conditions” is “absolutely false” to claim.
