Omar and Tlaib at press conferenceRep. Ilhan Omar of Minnesota has called on other members of Congress to visit Israel while she and Rep. Rashida Tlaib cannot.

Israel last week blocked the two Democratic House members from a planned trip to that country over their support for a Palestinian-led boycott movement.

Soon thereafter, however, Tlaib was granted the opportunity to visit her grandmother on a “humanitarian” visa but then announced she was staying in the U.S. because of Israel’s “oppressive” restriction.

What restriction? Not to advocate for the Boycott, Divestment, and Sanctions (BDS) movement.

At a news conference in Minnesota Monday afternoon, Omar said she and Tlaib – the first Muslim women elected to Congress – are being prevented from carrying out their duties as members of Congress.

She called on her colleagues to "meet with the people we were going to meet with, see the things we were going to see, hear the stories we were going to hear."

Rubin, David David Rubin, an author and former mayor of the Israeli city of Shiloh, tells OneNewsNow that both women had one goal in Israel: to cause trouble.

“To promote the boycott of Israel,” he says. “To encourage people to act politically against Israel.”

Rubin suggests no one should buy Tlaib’s claim that she wanted to visit her ailing grandmother.

"She’s a vile, nasty person,” he says of Tlaib, “who curses freely, who speaks utter lies about Israel and about the United States.”
