Forgetful Joe: Obama & I'd never allow Russian meddling

Biden announcementIn the midst of his 2020 Democratic presidential run, former Vice President Joe Biden made yet another embarrassing gaffe – boasting that under his and former President Barack Obama’s watch, they would never have allowed Russia to interfere in elections – even though they did exactly that … less than three years ago.

“Look at what’s happening with Putin,” Biden told CNN’s Chris Cuomo on New Day. “While he — while Putin is trying to undo our elections, he is undoing elections in Europe. Look what’s happening in Hungary. Look what’s happening in Poland. Look what’s happening. Do you think that would happen on my watch or Barack’s watch? You can’t answer that, but I promise you, it wouldn’t have, and it didn’t.”

Needless to say, Biden broke his promise the second he opened his lips, as the entire Russian meddling incident look place during Obama’s last months in office in 2016.

Alzheimer’s or blatant lies?

Similar to Biden’s recent debunked claim that Obama’s presidency was devoid of scandals, Biden insisted that Russian interference in United States election would never happen if he were in the White House, but it already did – and the contention of meddling was made repeatedly by his own Democratic Party for years … leading many Americans to believe one of the following scenarios about what’s going on with the imploding presidential candidate.

“Biden's latest head-scratching comment is the result of either an incredibly selective memory, alarming forgetfulness, or blatant lying on the topic of Russian election interference,” TheBlaze offered. “Much has been made about Russia's efforts to influence the 2016 presidential election, and Biden's comments fully ignore the fact that all of those interference activities occurred while Barack Obama was president and Biden was his vice president. In fact, the main substantial takeaway from special counsel Robert Mueller’s investigation was that Russian intelligence officers ‘launched a concerted attack on our political system’ and used cyber techniques ‘designed and timed to interfere with our election and to damage a presidential candidate.’"

One of the largest dailies in the nation’s capital also found it impossible to believe Biden so arrogantly denied something that has been covered by the mainstream media virtually on a daily basis for years, calling his latest blunder “another crack at whitewashing the Obama legacy.”

“The insane thing about this is: Russian election interference most absolutely happened during the Obama years,” the Washington Examiner stressed. “Everyone accepts that at this point, and President Trump was one of the last to accept it. Does Biden not know this? Is he lying and hoping no one notices? Is he just having a senior moment?”

The conservative media suggests that Biden should get a reality check before venturing any further toward a future presidency.

“In what version of reality is Biden living?” the Examiner’s Beckett Adams asked. “Russia has been [tampering] with foreign elections for decades. It is well-documented – it is not new. Maybe Biden is just that ignorant. Then again, he is also a shameless liar. Straight ignorance or an outright falsehood? Perhaps the answer here lies somewhere in the middle.”

Pulling a classic Kerry flip-flop?

Others are contending that Biden could possibly be separating himself from the Democratic Party’s common consensus – wondering if he actually now believes that no Russian collusion ever took place – even though he was in the White House for more than half a year while his administration was trying to frame Trump for conspiring with the Russians.

“The counter-intelligence probe into possible links between the Trump campaign and Russia that later grew into the full-blown Russiagate conspiracy theory, was launched by the FBI in July 2016 – half a year before Biden and Obama left the White House,” RT reported. “The events that were scrutinized by federal investigators and later by Special Counsel Robert Mueller’s team on their desperate hunt for a Trump-Russia connection – including the infamous Trump Tower meeting of June 2016 – all happened on Biden’s watch. [Unsurprisingly, CNN’s] Cuomo, however, didn’t challenge the ex-VP on the timing discrepancies.”

The buzz on social media is that Biden’s boast about no foreign tampering of elections under his watch was a calculated new campaign approach to the issue.

“The self-confessed Gaffe Machine’s words prompted derision – as well as confusion – on Twitter, with some asking if Biden has suddenly broken ranks with fellow Democrats in their belief there had been a Kremlin-led malicious campaign to undermine American democracy,” RT informed.

One Twitter user was asking to check and make sure if Biden is now on Trump’s side of the controversial issue.

“So, Biden’s admitting that Putin and Russia didn’t interfere with the election that happened during his watch?” David Cohen tweeted Friday.

Another wanted to confirm Biden’s stance.

“So, is he saying there was no election interference in our elections in 2016??” Cali Dreaming NaphiSoc asked on Twitter Friday.

Others even saw twice-failed Democratic presidential nominee Hillary Clinton as a more competent competitor for the White House, tweeting, “Where the [heck] is Hillary Clinton?” while another said Biden should have thrown in the towel regarding politics years ago, posting, “Joe Biden, go into retirement,” on Twitter, according to RT.

And with Biden unable to control his mouth –not to mention his abysmal debate performance against Sen. Kamala Harris (D-Calif.) – others said he should cut his losses while he can and put an axe in his bid for the Oval Office.

“The constant gaffe machine Joe Biden said ‘RUSSIA ELECTION INTERFERENCE WOULDN’T HAVE HAPPENED ‘ON MY WATCH AND BARACK’S WATCH,’” Mark Simone tweeted Friday. “Of course, that's exactly when it did happen. How long will Democrats allow this disaster of a campaign to continue?”

Did Biden’s blunders blow it?

Despite numerous public complaints about Biden inappropriately touching/embracing women, and with his recurring gaffes and his poor performance in the first 2020 Democratic primary debate – after which he lost ground in the polls to Sen. Kamala Harris (D-Calif.), who played the race card and made him look inconsistent on race relations – it still appears Biden remains the clear favorite for the left.

“He has not inspired confidence with his public comments, however, suffering from high-profile miscues such as touting his civility with segregationist senators, getting blindsided by Sen. Kamala Harris during the first debate over his desegregation positions in the 1970s, and flip-flopping on federally funded abortions,” TheBlaze’s Aaron Colen noted.

According the RealClearPolitics (RCP) Average of the latest polls taken between June 28 and July 2, Biden continues to hold a double-digit lead (10.8 percent) over the field that still consists of two dozen Democratic presidential candidates, and here is where the most notable contenders stand in order of ranking:

  • 1) former Vice President Joe Biden – 26.0 percent
  • 2) Sen. Kamala Harris (D-Calif.) – 15.2 percent
  • 3) Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-Vt.) – 14.0 percent
  • 4) Sen. Elizabeth Warren (D-Mass.) – 13.8 percent
  • 5) Mayor Pete Buttigieg (D-South Bend, Ind.) – 5.2 percent
  • 6) former Rep. Beto O’Rourke (D-Texas) – 2.4 percent
  • 7) Sen. Cory Booker (D-N.J.) – 2.2 percent
  • 8) former U.S. Secretary of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) Julian Castro – 1.4 percent
  • 9) Rep. Tulsi Gabbard (D-Hawaii) – 1.0 percent
  • 14) Gov. Jay Inslee (D-Wash.) – 0.4 percent
