SF: Sanctuary CityA border enforcement advocacy organization says it is the height of pretense for proponents of "sanctuary" jurisdictions to oppose receiving illegal immigrants sent to them by the Trump administration.

In recent years, Democrats have extolled the virtues of mass legal and illegal immigration. And when President Trump didn't agree, they created "sanctuary cities," "sanctuary counties," and – in the case of California – a "sanctuary state" in order to protect illegal aliens from federal immigration enforcement.

But when the Trump administration recently suggested sending the heavy influx of illegal aliens to sanctuary cities, many Democratic leaders like Nancy Pelosi, Corey Booker and Gavin Newsome were quick to raise objections.

On April 12, Trump tweeted the following:

"Due to the fact that Democrats are unwilling to change our very dangerous immigration laws, we are indeed, as reported, giving strong considerations to placing Illegal Immigrants in Sanctuary Cities only …. The Radical Left always seems to have an Open Borders, Open Arms policy – so this should make them very happy!"

The president later stated his proposal wasn't the preferred solution but just one of many options being considered.

Mehlman

Ira Mehlman, a spokesman for the Federation for American Immigration Reform, notes that Trump clearly exposed the hypocrisy of those who advocate for or propose sanctuary jurisdictions.

"[He exposed] the fact that they're really grandstanding [and] not all that sincere about what they're pushing for," Mehlman continues. "If you have these jurisdictions that have said that [they] welcome everybody, well then maybe the best place to put these folks is in San Francisco or Seattle or some other sanctuary jurisdiction that has indicated that they're welcoming of everybody."

In a recent column, Star Parker addresses another aspect of Democrats' hypocrisy when they blame "deeply dysfunctional capitalism" for the immigration crisis. "Capitalism and economic freedom are the answer, not the problem," she writes.
