CA immigration marchPolitics as usual is the reason Democrats are fighting a citizenship question on the next census form yet demanding questions about sexual orientation, says the spokesman for an immigration watchdog.

Democrats became apoplectic when Commerce Secretary Wilbur Ross announced that the 2020 Census would include a question about citizenship.

Led by California Attorney General Xavier Becerra, whose state incidentally boasts the largest number of illegal aliens in the country, Democrats filed a lawsuit aimed at blocking the Census Bureau from including a question on citizenship. Senate Democrats also demanded hearings on the matter.

Ira Mehlman, a spokesman for the Federation for American Immigration Reform, says the inconsistency is just politics.

"There are a lot of people in the country who don't want us to know just how many people are living in the country who are not citizens," he says, "because it doesn't serve their political goals."

Mehlman is confident, meanwhile, that the citizenship question will remain on the 2020 census form.

"Given the fact that we've had these questions on past censuses," he tells OneNewsNow, "there doesn't seem to be any real question whether it is constitutional to ask people simply whether they're a citizen or not a citizen."
