The spokesman for an immigration watchdog says the GOP has always been at war with itself over how to deal with illegal immigration.
Left-wing groups and mainstream media often targete the wealthy Koch brothers for supporting Republican candidates, but the brothers lean liberal on the hot-button issue of illegal immigration.
As President Donald Trump's DACA deadline passed on Monday, the supposedly conservative Koch Brothers are working overtime to keep the dream alive. The LIBRE Initiative – a Koch-funded group launched to "empower the U.S. Hispanic community" – has produced stirring TV ads portraying beneficiaries of the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals program as "patriots."
Dave Ray, a spokesman for the Federation for American Immigration Reform, or FAIR, says the Koch brothers represent the "Wall Street wing" of the Republican Party.
"Which has always had a love affair with mass immigration," he advises.
Despite the current Koch-backed narrative that DACA is a group of patriots, Ray says, they remain illegal aliens who are demanding that Congress make them a priority this year.
FAIR has pointed out that according to the Congressional Budget Office, 71 percent of DACA recipients live in government-subsidized housing, one in five are projected to end up on food stamps, and one in seven will be on Medicaid.
