An immigration enforcement advocacy organization is appalled by the efforts of California Democrats to introduce legislation aimed at undermining immigration enforcement under the upcoming Trump administration.
Legislators in the California State Assembly and State Senate began the 2017–2018 legislative session by introducing a package of bills that prioritize the interests of illegal aliens above the state’s lawful residents.
First and foremost, Senate Bill 6 (S.B. 6) would provide taxpayer-funded legal representation to illegal aliens – despite a federal law prohibiting the expenditure of government money on legal representation for aliens concerning immigration matters.
Federation for American Immigration Reform Spokesman Ira Mehlman argues that under the law, illegal aliens cannot be given the same legal representation as United States citizens.
Cut "The constitution guarantees you legal representation if you are charged with a criminal offense. But there is no guarantee of publicly funded defense in civil matters – and immigration is a civil matter."
Mehlman maintains that the Democrats’ immigration agenda is part of a nationwide effort to thwart the incoming administration's efforts to deport illegal aliens.
"The strategy for the proponents for the illegal aliens has become pretty clear since the election,” the legal expert asserted. “They intend to use the judicial process to throw sand in the gears.”
One key Democrat is maneuvering to make sure that existing law will not apply to illegal aliens.
“Congressman Luis Gutierrez, who has declared himself to be the congressional representative to illegal aliens, has said we are going to try to shut the system down,” Dys informed. “They're going to try to litigate every case [and] tie the federal court system up in knots."
Currently, California has the largest illegal alien population in the country, estimated to be more than 3 million.
