Illegals on top of trainThe Department of Homeland Security may be hiding a report on illegal immigration because it might help Donald Trump and hurt Hillary Clinton.

A source inside Homeland Security tells FOX News the report shows that about half of border-crossers make it to the U.S. – yet DHS has been saying that only 20 percent make it. The report was finished last November, but the source says the agency is hiding it for purely "political reasons ... because it would 'look bad' and 'help elect Donald Trump."

Jordan Sekulow of the American Center for Law & Justice says it's part of a troubling pattern. "Stories like this have become the norm when dealing with the Obama administration. It's not rare," he offers.

"We see [this] time and time again with this administration – abusing the IRS power to silence conservatives; the State Department shrouding everything in secrecy when it came to the Iran deal; and then this latest [tactic]: not wanting to release statistics that could be made available at least to members of Congress while they're trying to write a budget."

Sekulow, Jordan (ACLJ)Sekulow says it's one thing when the president uses his bully pulpit to help elect a candidate from his own party – but illegally using entire departments for that purpose, he says, is unconscionable.

The ACLJ spokesman adds that depending on how the election comes out, such abuse of executive power could continue.

"This is not a partisan statement from me," he qualifies, "but just based on how Hillary Clinton has run her campaign, I think it's pretty clear that we could expect more of the same if she were to be elected president."

In the FOX report, a spokesperson for the Center for Immigration Studies admitted not being surprised the Obama administration is sitting on the immigration statistics "because it contradicts [their] narrative that the border is secure, and it contradicts [their] wish for people to believe that illegal immigration is a thing of the past,” said Jessica Vaughan.
