The head of an immigration enforcement group says Congress needs to stop the Obama administration from issuing work permits to millions of illegal aliens who shouldn't be authorized to work in the United States.

After the Center for Immigration Studies filed a Freedom of Information request, documents showed that 5.5 million work permits have been issued to illegals since 2009 under the Obama administration. Those permits were handed out, CIS learned, outside the current legal system.

Krikorian

Mark Krikorian, executive director of CIS, says the United States already gives out approximately one million so-called green cards a year and about 700,000 work permits to foreign workers.

"And this is another five-plus million on top of those over the past five years," he tells OneNewsNow.

Breitbart News, reporting on the CIS report, broke down the numbers further. CIS found that approximately 1.2 million aliens with legal visas, such as foreign students, are not permitted by federal law to obtain a work permit. Another 957,000 aliens had crossed the border illegally, known as "Entered Without Inspection," and another 1.7 million aliens were issued permits even though their legal status was unknown.

Krikorian describes the work permit giveaway as a "parallel immigration system," one in which people who shouldn't be allowed to work are given a permit, Social Security numbers, and a driver's license.

"They're essentially immigrants but outside the limits that Congress set in the law," he says.
