pregnant and ChinaMany moms around the globe were not able to celebrate Mother’s Day and there are sad reasons why.

It's supposed to be a special day to honor mothers but Daniel Punnose, vice president of Gospel for Asia, tells OneNewsNow that’s not always the case around the world.

“Things are okay on our side of the world,” he says. “So this is something we're trying to bring an awareness and highlight, and also call people to pray especially during this time where literally up to a hundred million women are missing from this Mother’s Day experience."

The reason: They are sold for labor and sex trafficking, and in some nations females are aborted, or even killed after birth, because they are female.

“It's called sex-selective abortions or female infanticide,” Punnose says, “and is the killing of female babies, especially after birth, simply because the male children, male babies, are wanted more than the female babies.”

If a couple has a house full of girls, parents must provide dowries to prospective husbands which can be expensive and doom a family to poverty.

That situation also helps explain selling girls into the slave and sex trades.

Gospel for Asia is working to change attitudes and trying to convince people to appreciate the value of females.

The organization has various programs to challenge the perception as well as change hearts through accepting the love of Jesus Christ.
