Somalia Islamic militantsA spokeswoman for ministry Open Doors USA says Christians in Nigeria are facing a "horrific situation" at the hands of Islamic terrorist group Boko Haram and other Muslims.

For years Boko Haram has been attacking and killing Christians, and now those Christians are facing a food shortage in refugee camps after enduring horrific violence, says Open Doors spokeswoman Emily Fuentes.

"They've already been displaced," she says of Nigeria's Christians. "They've already faced horrific acts of violence and now they can't have access to food because of Boko Haram."

The famine is expected to be at its worst in July, and Opens Doors USA is concerned that Christians seeking food are being pushed out of food lines becaues they are considered "arne" people, meaning non-Muslims.

Local churches and other Christian believers have now stepped in to help some refugees who had begun eating leaves to stay alive.

Open Doors USA is currently sending food survival kits, which can feed a family for two months.
