SudanA Christian organization working closely with indigenous missionaries in Syria is giving details on a brutal ISIS attack that took place earlier this summer.

According to Christian Aid Mission, ISIS beheaded and crucified 11 indigenous Christian workers near Aleppo on August 28th. Mission spokeswoman Amie Cotton tells OneNewsNow that relatives told her organization the workers were executed for renouncing Islam for Christianity.

"The leader, he was only 41 years old, and he had two other ministry members in their 20s, and they were summoned into a crowd," Cotton relays. "ISIS wanted all of this to be on display for others, and so their team and ... the team leader's son, who was 12, [were] crucified and beheaded."

Another group of ministry team members, including two women, suffered the same fate. Still, despite the severe persecution, Cotton says some indigenous missionaries are choosing to stay put.

"Some of them are ministering to these ISIS militants themselves, and some of them are coming to Christ, and that's only a work of the Lord and this growth of the Church," she tributes. "The Church has always seemed to grow under persecution, and I believe that's just a miracle of the Lord."

Cotton asks for prayers for the safety of the remaining families and neighbors who are in the underground churches in Syria.
