ICE protestAn immigration reform organization says the leftist push to abolish ICE is not a popular idea among the majority of the American people.

Immigration and Customs Enforcement reports arresting more than 2,000 illegal aliens in a series of summer enforcement operations between July and August—highlighting the public safety value of the agency and debunking the arguments of the "Abolish ICE" movement.

Ira Mehlman, a spokesman for the Federation for American Immigration Reform (FAIR), says the operations over a six-week period in 24 cities nationwide resulted in the apprehension of illegals from more than 20 different countries.

"In this case, they are going after some pretty bad actors here, people who have committed all kinds of very, very serious crimes in this country," Mehlman notes. "That's why ICE is necessary; they protect the security of the people in the United States."

He reasons that defunding or eliminating ICE is not a popular idea among most Americans.

"The loudest voices in the room are the ones getting the most attention now, but smart politicians, regardless of party affiliation, do recognize that the American people want their communities safe," the FAIR spokesman asserts.

He goes on to cite a Gallup poll that showed 80 percent of African-Americans do not want to see police forces cut. "In many cases, it is their communities that are being ravaged by criminals who are being turned loose," he adds.
