A pro-Israel activist is concerned that a major war will break out in the Middle East within the next year or two.
Gaza-based terrorists recently fired a barrage of rockets into Israel hours after a cease-fire was declared to bring to an end to two days of intense fighting. Air raid sirens went off in several communities on Thursday near the Gaza Strip as at least five rockets could be seen blasting out of the territory.
The fighting began when Israel killed a senior commander with the Islamic Jihad terrorist group in Gaza early on Tuesday, and as OneNewsNow has reported, Israel's foreign minister says his country intends to continue to respond to terrorist attacks from Gaza.
Gary Bauer of American Values serves on the United States Commission on International Religious Freedom. During a recent appearance on American Family Radio, he said the American people need to understand the bigger picture.
"Israel is facing an existential threat, a threat that can literally cause them to cease to exist," he said. "I believe sooner rather than later - certainly in the next year or two - we are going to see a major war in the Middle East, and that will change things in ways we can't predict right now."
Also, as Democrats are clearly not friends with Israel, Bauer says that will be a major factor in next year's presidential campaign.
"Even if somebody like Joe Biden gets elected president of the United States, he will have people in his administration from the progressive wing of the party, because it is the wing of the party where all of the energy is," Bauer explains. "So I'll guarantee … that the next Democrat president will have essentially an anti-Israel foreign policy, just like Barack Obama did."
