Germany’s chancellor is making headlines, and angering Israel’s supporters, after meeting with Jew-hating Palestinians.
Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas met with Chancellor Angela Merkel this week to discuss a “two-state solution,” a peace strategy dating back decades and numerous world leaders.
Merkel called the two-state solution the only way for Israelis and Palestinians to “live in peace and security.”
At the same meeting, Abbas thanked Merkel and Germany for its financial support, which amounted to $122 million in 2018.
“There is absolutely no reason to be talking about a two-state solution. Nobody in Israel believes in it anymore,” responds author David Rubin, an American-born Jew who is also an Israeli citizen.
Among the Israeli population, whether conservatives or liberals, he tells OneNewsNow, most have given up on the decades-old idea that giving Palestinian terrorists their own country will bring peace to the region.
Pro-Israel activist Jan Markell, who leads Olive Tree Ministries, says the funds flowing to Palestinian leaders are abused and not used to help their people.
"It's used for terror. It's used to glorify terrorists,” she says of the funds. “It is never used to improve the lives of the Palestinian people.”
It doesn’t help, Markell adds, that European leaders such as Merkell and French president Emmanuel Macron are “Godless people” who cannot understand the true goals of the Palestinians they are helping. Their goal is not a two-state solution and peace with their Jewish neighbors.
"They want the destruction of Israel,” she says.
