Putin-Kim summitA national defense analyst says the summit between North Korea’s dictator and Russia’s president is really about a third party: China.

Kim Jong Un is meeting today with Vladimir Putin, which marks his first visit to Russia. His father Kim Jong Il visited there in 2011.

Bob Maginnis, a senior fellow for national security at the Family Research Council, says the real alliance is China and Russia, with North Korea acting as a proxy.

Maginnis

“They're trying to twist and manipulate Kim Jong Un,” advises Maginiss, “to make it more difficult for President Trump to have an international victory that would that would bolster his credibility in the world."

The two leaders are expected to talk about North Korea's nuclear program amid the deadlocked global diplomacy after the February summit between Kim and President Trump.

Maginnis says the relationship between Russia and China is becoming closer than it's ever been because they have a common enemy: the United States.

“And if they can do anything to cause us to have problems,” he explains, “such as support the likes of Kim Jong Un, that's exactly what they'll do.”
