Pentagon Pride month 2017An advocate for military readiness says it is inappropriate that three former Obama administration officials are working to keep his transgender military service intact despite a new commander in chief in the White House.

During a recent hearing before the House Armed Services Personnel Sub-Committee, The Military Times reports that three former Obama administration officials issued a statement criticizing current Defense Department officials who testified at that hearing.

Elaine Donnelly, president of the Center for Military Readiness, says Ray Mabus, Deborah Lee James, and Eric Fanning, who served as secretaries of Navy, Air Force, and Army respectively under Obama, argued that current officials don’t have the right to criticize Obama-era policies.

Donnelly

“It was highly inappropriate, I believe,” says Donnelly, “because what they said falsely described the policy and made some personal criticisms that were, in my opinion, out of line."

Donnelly says Democrat sub-committee chairman Jackie Speier doesn't care about the consequences.

"She is an ideologue,” Donnelly says of the liberal congresswoman. “And she shares the view, of course, of President Obama and the previous administration, and she's really not considering the cost and the consequences of imposing this policy or returning to it.”

Spears is sponsoring legislation to return to the Obama policy, she adds.

Meanwhile, the issue is currently tied up in the courts and may have to be resolved by the U.S. Supreme Court.
