Discounting Democrats’ complaint that President Donald Trump’s wall will allegedly cost American taxpayers $5 billion, a report reveals that illegal immigration costs taxpayers $155 billion a year – 31 times more.
On Monday, the president got together with key Democrats leaders Nancy Pelosi and Chuck Schumer at the Oval Office to discuss wall funding. The following day at a volatile conference, he exposed the two for supporting open borders after they complained about the billions of dollars it would cost taxpayers to build a continuous 2,000-mile wall across the United States-Mexico border from California’s Pacific Coast to Texas’ Gulf Coast.
Conflict of interest
Trump was upset at the Democrats’ reluctance to fund his most ambitious plan to ensure national security and protect the American economy at the southern border.
“Pelosi and Schumer said Democrats would not agree to $5 billion for the border wall,” the Gateway Pundit announced from the meeting in the nation’s capital.
The Democratic leaders offered only about a quarter of what it would cost to build Trump’s secure, continuous wall.
“Amid the threat of a government shutdown, Democrats are offering $1.3 billion for border fencing and barriers, while Trump has requested $5 billion,” WND reported.
Building up Democrats’ roadblock to erecting Trump’s border wall even further, Rep. Nita Lowey (D-N.Y.) – who many expect will become the House Appropriations Committee next chair in 2019 – called the president’s planned wall a flagrant waste of money.
“It would be reckless and irresponsible to waste national security resources on a border wall that is nothing more than in-kind contribution to his re-election campaign,” Lowey claimed, according to WND.
Who’s wasting money?
Both Pelosi and Schumer agreed with Lowey’s contention that investing $5 billion on the wall was a “waste of resources.”
However, after looking at statistics, allowing illegal immigrants to continue to invade the U.S. by breaching the border and using up taxpayer-funded resources was found to be many times more costly to Americans than a $5 billion wall.
“They could not be further from the truth,” Gateway Pundit’s Jim Hoft contended. “Actually, the illegal alien financial burden, per year, in the United States is $155 billion.”
The astronomical cost of absorbing the expenses of illegal aliens would be even larger if other factors were included.
“That number does not count externals such as: 1) American jobs lost; 2) commerce affected by remittances to Mexico; 3) Hhealth crisis due to illegal drugs trafficked into our streets and; 4) American deaths due to the illegal drugs in America today,” Hoft stressed.
In the face of Pelosi’s and Schumer’s argument, it is impressed that spending a mere $5 billion on the border wall would reap dividends 20 times over.
“Building the wall – no matter who pays for it – IS Mexico paying for the wall, because we’d save nearly 100 billion dollars each year,” Hoft concluded.
Numbers do the talking …
The numbers presented by Hoft were taken from a Federation for American Immigration Reforms (FAIR) report published last year that highlighted the detrimental effects of illegal immigration.
Breaking it down, FAIR indicated that the $155 billion drain on taxpayers amounts to Americans shelling out $8,000 per illegal immigrant and dependent every year.
FAIR’s report goes against Democrats’ assertion that illegal aliens are beneficial to the economy,
“FAIR firmly believes that the costs of illegal immigration – and massive legal immigration – significantly outweigh any perceived benefit,” FAIR’s report titled, “The Fiscal Burden of Illegal Immigration on U.S. Taxpayers,” declared. “Illegal aliens are net consumers of taxpayer-funded services and the limited taxes paid by some segments of the illegal alien population are – in no way – significant enough to offset the growing financial burdens imposed on U.S. taxpayers by massive numbers of uninvited guests.”
It is argued that investing financial support in illegals takes funding away from legal citizens who desperately it.
“Political and judicial efforts to accord illegal aliens the same government benefits available to U.S. citizens (e.g., the Supreme Court’s holding in Plyler v. Doe guaranteeing illegal alien children a free public education, at taxpayer expense) have increasingly stressed federal, state and local budgets – to the detriment of Americans – particularly the poor, elderly, and disabled,” FAIR informed.
The politically correct pro-immigration argument touted by Democrats habitually leaves out the detrimental effects that paying for illegals has on America.
“The impact on public school systems and criminal justice institutions has been particularly harsh,” the FAIR report explained. “And the situation has been greatly exacerbated by government refusal to implement measures aimed at deterring, detecting and prosecuting illegal aliens who commit fraud to obtain benefits and/or to avoid deportation following a criminal conviction.”
