Ark Encounter constructionAn apologetics ministry went straight to the Bible to find a creative ways to promote the opening of its massive re-creation of Noah's Ark.

The grand opening of the Ark Encounter in Kentucky is set for July 7, 2016.

Ken Ham, founder and president of Answers in Genesis, says the opening date was chosen from Genesis 7:7, which records the moment when Noah and his family entered the Ark.

Ham, Ken (Answers in Genesis)Construction of the Ark is still ongoing. The shell or outer structure of the giant boat is expected to be completed in December and work on exhibits inside the Ark will begin afterward.

Answers has raised approximately $80 million to date for the first phase of construction.

Ham tells OneNewsNow that a second marketing idea, also taken from Genesis, is to allow visitors to visit the Ark day and night for the first 40 days it opens.

"In other words," he says, "have a day-time ticket and an evening-time ticket for the first 40 days and 40 nights."

Normal daytime hours of operation would then resume in mid-August.

Tickets to the Ark Encounter go on sale in January.
