Joe Biden inauguration pic 2At the same time the United States passed 500,000 coronavirus-related deaths a media watchdog has noticed a remarkedly different tone in the media that was not around when Donald Trump was being blamed for the death toll.

Over at Trump-hating CNN, the half-million mark took on religious tones this week when Jake Tapper asked his guest, Catholic Cardinal Wilton Gregory, to lead a prayer, live on air, for the victims.

“Before you go, Cardinal,” Tapper said, “would you lead us in a prayer to help comfort those who may be suffering right now?”

Tim Graham of Media Research Center says he and MRC noticed the difference in media coverage after the China-born virus was often called the “Trump virus" by Democrats, and the cable networks dutifully displayed cases and deaths around the clock for viewers to see.

Those 24-hour statistics have now mysteriously disappeared.

Trump coronavirus press conferenceThe media ensured that every recorded death, in fact, led back to Donald Trump to the extent that grieving families blamed him in their love one's obituaries and news outlets, such as CNN, reported on their anger.

“There's no question that the news media,” Graham tells One News Now, “in the election year of 2020, always and everywhere, suggested that Trump had caused the pandemic.”

During live coverage of Biden's inauguration, MSNBC commentator Eddie Glaude predictably praised Biden and denounced Trump, but he also suggested 74 million Trump voters share blame for the virus deaths, too.

"Not only do we have to remember our dead, we have to remember what brought us to this moment, what got us here," he said. "And it's not just Donald Trump. It's not just him."

Now that there’s a new occupant in the White House, with no Trump to kick around anymore, Graham predicts the public will witness the media begin imitating its coverage from, say, five years ago.
