Trump with border wall prototypeA border enforcement advocacy organization is not surprised that the mainstream media's stories on immigration are journalistically unbalanced.

The Federation for American Immigration Reform (FAIR) reports that The New York Times, the Los Angeles Times, and The Philadelphia Inquirer all recently published immigration-related editorials and stories that chastise the Trump administration's immigration policies and leave out any discussion of the benefits they bring to Americans and immigrants.

The New York Times claims the Trump administration's immigration policies are filled with "racism, cruelty, and xenophobia." The Los Angeles Times piece reads, "Beyond the rhetorical broadsides, the administration has taken several steps that have been acutely felt by the immigrant communities." And The Philadelphia Inquirer negatively notes "President Donald Trump's four-year crusade against immigration."

Mehlman

"This is par for the course for a lot of the mainstream media, which is why I think so many Americans have such a low opinion of the media and journalism in general these days," responds FAIR spokesman Ira Mehlman. "It just goes to show that if you want to get a real picture of what is going on, you have to look at a variety of sources, because you're only getting … partial pictures that are slanted in a way that meets their political objectives."

Mehlman points out that the administration's travel bans, interior enforcement and removal operations, and construction of a southern border wall have improved public safety. Further, the suspension of foreign guest worker programs has created new job opportunities and expected higher wages for Americans.
