The mainstream media continues to savage President Donald Trump on his handling of the coronavirus crisis, even as his approval ratings rise among the public.
Despite being badgered, sometimes federal officials respond with an answer that those in the media don't expect. For example, CBS's Gail King recently tried to get U.S. Surgeon General Jerome Adams to contradict the president:
King: "The president, to our knowledge, has no medical training -- yet he continues to question the advice from the medical experts and professionals. Is that frustrating to you?
Adams: “The models, in many cases, are way off.”
Not only that, NBC's Andrea Mitchell seemed dismayed that the president’s approval ratings are “skyrocketing” during the crisis:
Mitchell: “The briefings are working for the president. No matter what he says, people seem to be seeing him as a leader – at least, more people do.”
Going into the weekend, a Gallup poll found the president's approval rating is as high as it's ever been. According to that poll, a full 60% of Americans approve of the way he's handling the coronavirus pandemic.
Kyle Drennen of Media Research Center says the media just don't get it.
“People seem to be responding to how he's leading through the crisis -- [and] media don't really know what to do with that,” says the MRC spokesman. “They can't accept that as what's going on, so they're still trying to find a way to say 'No, no, you can't approve of what he's doing.'”
Drennen says the mainstream media -- in frustration -- has started ignoring the president's daily briefings.
