Sen. Ted Cruz (R-Texas) did not hold back when asked if Hollywood actually glamorizes gun violence in America and agreed, pointing out the entertainment industry’s “enormous hypocrisy” when it promotes gun control.
In the wake of last week’s high school mass shooting in Florida claiming 17 lives, Cruz defended the Second Amendment right of all Americans – not just millionaire movie stars with an entourage of armed bodyguards – to be able to be protected by responsible individuals who are trained to deter would-be shooters.
After Nikola Cruz slaughtered 17 people and injured a more than a dozen with a legally purchased AR-15 semi-automatic assault rifle at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland, Florida, Sen. Cruz and other conservative politicians have unabashedly entered the fray against liberal gun control activists in Hollywood.
“The massacre, once again, pushed Americans to voice their opinions on gun laws, and celebrities are civilians just like the rest of us,” VladTV reported. “Senator Ted Cruz … has an opinion of his own when it comes to celebrities who believe in strengthening gun control.”
Case and point
Cruz argued that Hollywood liberals’ hypocrisy concerning their environmental extremism on “climate change” – while they are amongst the world’s biggest polluters and consumers – is about the same as their preblematic stance on gun control.
“Hollywood liberals on gun control is akin to Hollywood liberals on global warming,” the Texas senator contended, according to TheBlaze. “Which is they fly their private jets to a conference, step out and say, ‘Global warming is terrible. Let’s take away everything from the working men and women.’ And then they get back on their private jet and fly back. Same thing on gun control. If you have a bevy of armed security officers protecting you, maybe you shouldn’t be trying to strip Second Amendment rights from law-abiding citizens.”
He went on to give his candid take on why he believes that Hollywood is much to blame for American culture’s fascination with guns that leads to much gun violence – especially amongst today’s highly impressionable teens.
“I don’t think this is one too many movies with cowboys and Indians or [Arnold] Schwarzenegger, Quentin Tarantino or what have you,” Cruz told a TMZ reporter in the nation’s capital. “Evil has always been with us.”
The former Republican presidential candidate then called Hollywood celebrities out for essentially considering their own protection more important than America’s youth trapped behind school gates.
“Now Hollywood does glorify violence, and I’ve got to say I wish we had a little bit less of that,” Cruz continued. “But the truth of the matter is when Hollywood celebrities engage on issues like this, they’re almost inevitably reflecting enormous hypocrisy. Because a lot of these movie stars, they have armed security traveling with them, so they’re perfectly happy to say, ‘Yeah, yeah, yeah. My armed security, he can keep me safe, but don’t let a law-abiding citizen…’”
He also silenced the gun control argument by giving a scenario where gun rights are critical for families living under dire conditions.
“The Second Amendment is about a single mom living in a tough neighborhood with a crack house down the street being able to defend herself and defend her kids,” the outspoken conservative insisted.
On to the schools …
Cruz then touched on a hero in that the mainstream media rarely focuses on – as outlets have consistently bombarded the Internet and television waves with the protests of angry gun control activists.
He put the focus back on those who have successfully protected Americans with their own firearms, such as Stephen Willeford, who used his own gun to help thwart the shooter of the lethal church massacre last November in Sutherland Springs, Texas.
“It was the Second Amendment that saved a lot of lives that day,” Cruz said of Willeford’s heroic actions, according to TheBlaze. “Law enforcement lives and innocent men, women and children – the Second Amendment is about people protecting themselves.”
Caring vs. politically posturing
The media was quick to pick up on Cruz’s genuine concern for the lives of Americans – a virtue he often proclaims when championing the sanctity of human life against abortionists’ arguments.
“The kindness of Cruz was astounding,” Louder With Crowder reported. “He really cares about both the American people and the young [TMZ] interviewer.”
And even though the interviewer at TMZ did not agree with everything on Cruz’s take regarding the Florida shooting and gun rights, it was conceded that the senator is getting through to the American public – without admitting that the politician from Texas was right.
“Cruz got a few of the facts wrong, but he’s making his point, loud and clear here,” the TMZ interviewer admitted.
One conservative news source was quick to pick up on the fact that Cruz’s argument in the longstanding controversial debate was virtually bulletproof – even when analyzed by the leftist media.
“We thought there would be more to the article, so we scrolled – for two days, [but] nothing,” Louder With Crowder’s Nichole Cooper noted. “We never found the facts Cruz got wrong. Or the writer’s dignity. TMZ reiterated Cruz’s point and then ended the article doubting Cruz. They didn’t even try refuting him. Given, refutation is hard for writers who have CNN as a source.”
Even though the left-leaning journalist would not outwardly admit that Cruz hit the nail on its head, most readers were able to deduce that Cruz’s take on gun rights made a huge impression.
“The TMZ writer unwillingly made the same conclusion as Cruz,” Cooper added. “Celebrities and other unqualified persons shouldn’t give their half a penny on ‘gun control.’ The left is touting the opinions of the Florida shooting survivors as completely dependable. Children who just experienced major trauma. Along with the children, progressives uphold celebrities’ opinions. Then journalists’, and so on.”
The true heart and reasoning behind the gun control vs. gun rights debate was then candidly declared.
“Gun control is all about virtue signaling – not the rights and lives of every American – rights which leftists can’t wrap their gastric banded brains around,” Cooper impressed.
